Why a workplace should be Deaf-friendly

Why a workplace should be Deaf-friendly

Being Deaf or hard of hearing can be difficult to find a workplace where communication and resources are accessible.

This could be due to a lack of awareness of making the workplace accessible for Deaf people. Employees will potentially have no understanding or training around being Deaf aware.

We will improve this by raising the issue and determined for it to be resolved:

·       Workplaces should include Deaf Awareness training

·       Workplaces should understand basic and simple British Sign Language (BSL)

·       Workplaces should consider the layout of meetings, this could be being around a table to make direct conversation easier

·       Workplaces should be inclusive when considering and deciding new ideas or organising projects

At SEA Support Services, we welcome everyone whether they’re hearing, hard of hearing or deaf. We believe everyone has the right to be able to work comfortably in a safe, equal and welcoming environment without feeling discriminated.

We offer BSL training for our staff as this will make communication with other staff members and client’s easier and more understanding.
