About the role

SEA Support Services is looking for caring, patient and reliable Support Workers to support a gentleman living in the L10 area.

He is laid-back, slow-paced and communicates at a slower pace. He enjoys football, history, watching TV and getting out into the community. He particularly enjoys watching football matches and values being able to watch games as part of his routine.

He benefits from clear communication, reassurance and a calm approach.

• Providing reassurance and companionship

• Supporting communication using BSL and other communication methods

About the person

He has schizophrenia and early-stage dementia.

He is described as interactive and visually happy when he is doing well. He communicates at a slower pace, so Support Workers must allow him enough time to understand information and respond.

Unclear communication and things being done too quickly can cause distress. Do not rush him or make assumptions about what he has understood.

Lots of reassurance, patience and effective communication are important.

A Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) plan is in place and must be followed.

Important safety information

The person has mobility needs and Support Workers must follow relevant Occupational Therapist (OT) recommendations.

What we are looking for

You should:

• Be a confident BSL user

• Be Deaf-aware

• Be patient and calm

• Have good communication skills

• Be comfortable supporting with personal care

• Be confident supporting with medication

• Respect the person's pace and communication needs

• Be able to follow a PBS plan and support guidance

• Be comfortable supporting someone with dementia and mental health needs

• Be able to support with community activities and outings

• Be a driver, as driving is required for the role

Experience supporting people with dementia, schizophrenia or complex support needs would be desirable.

Hours

This is a 24/7 support package, with support provided on a rota/shift basis.

Start date: 18th November

There may be opportunities for different shift patterns depending on the needs of the service.
