About the Role:
SEA Support Services are looking for a calm, patient, and skilled BSL user to support a wonderful 61-year-old Deaf woman in the Birkenhead area. You'll be providing person-centred support to help the client live her life to the fullest while maintaining her independence and engaging in the activities she loves.
Your role will include:
Support with personal care, including assistance with bathing/showering – patience required when standing or transferring due to arthritis
Meal preparation and household tasks
Support with community access, including shopping trips (uses a wheelchair in public)
Providing travel support to medical appointments and social activities (you will need to drive)
BSL communication at an appropriate, clear place
Support mental wellbeing through positive, engaging interaction
Learning support, including YouTube tutorials and drawing activities
Ensuring medication is taken
Timekeeping for appointments and maintaining preferred routines
Engaging in one-to-one conversations about history, family, the past, and current news
Supporting client to manage her bills and household admin on time
About The Client
She is a bubbly, chatty, and funny lady who loves meaningful connections with people. She enjoys shopping, seeing her friends, and watching the news. She has a real passion for birds and history – she loves it when you explain interesting things to her and really appreciates learning new facts.
She enjoys one-to-one time talking about the past, family, and current events. She also loves to draw simple things and enjoys learning from YouTube.
She values clear communication, patience, and punctuality. She takes pride in her independence with medication and managing her bills on time.
Important to know: She has arthritis affecting her knees and feet, so you must be patient when she is standing up or getting in and out of the shower. She thrives with positive people around her – this is crucial for her mental health.

Fluent British Sign Language (BSL) skills – clear, patient communication style
Deaf-aware, with a good understanding of Deaf culture and individual communication needs
Experience as a Support Worker for adults with learning disabilities or additional needs

NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care (training can be provided if not yet achieved)
The ability to work independently while following support plans
Ability to demonstrate empathy, patience, and a strong commitment to person-centred support
Interest in or knowledge of history (desirable)
Personal Qualities
You'll need to be calm, patient, positive, and engaging – someone who brings warmth and positivity to her daily life. You should be able to communicate clearly in BSL without rushing, and have a genuine interest in building a trusting, meaningful relationship. Most of all, you'll be someone who truly enjoys helping others live full, meaningful lives.
